'NCIS: Origins' Sneak Peek: See Gibbs and Mike Franks' First Meeting (Exclusive)
This Monday, NCIS: Origins takes us back in time even further than the start of Leroy Jethro Gibbs’ (Austin Powell) first day as an NIS agent in 1991. It flashes back to the first time that Gibbs met Special Agent Mike Franks (Kyle Schmid).
We’re thinking that wasn’t a happy day. Franks was the NIS agent in charge of investigating the murder of Gibbs’ wife Shannon and daughter Kelly.
But the “One Flew Over” episode also has some lighter moments—and Parade has an exclusive first look.
We see the softer side of Gibbs as he’s trying to find the Natural Resources Office at Camp Pendleton for some help after a bird flew into his apartment and crashed into a wall, and he turns to Mary Jo (Tyla Abercrumbie), aka "Head Secretary in Charge," for help.
“You see this road? You follow this all the way up to the bend,” Mary Jo tells Gibbs, who’s having trouble reading the map of the base.
“Where’s the office? Is it not marked on here,” Gibbs says.
“It’s right here, baby, just past the firing range,” she shows him. “It says Natural Resources Office.”

Even as she’s indicating where Gibbs needs to go on the map, Mary Jo is on the phone trying to reach someone at the Natural Resources Office.
“They’re not picking up. Probably closed for the night,” she says giving up.
“Do you think they have some bird seed lying around outside?” Gibbs asks, not giving up and trying to find a way to care for the injured bird.
Then Franks comes in, “Probie, I thought you went home,” he says.
“I did,” Gibbs explains, “but a bird flew into my place. It hit the wall. It stunned itself. I thought maybe the Natural Resources Office…”
Curious, Franks interrupts, “A pigeon?”
Gibbs shakes his head, “Smaller.”
Franks asks, “Well, where’s it at?

“What?” Gibbs asks.
“The bird,” Franks says, a little exasperated.
“Back at my place,” Gibbs responds.
“Doing what?” Franks asks.
The phone rings, interrupting their conversation and Mary Jo answers.
She hands the receiver to Franks saying, “It’s Randy" (Caleb Foote).
Franks isn’t thrilled about getting a call. “Don’t you go pissing on my parade, Randolph. I am halfway out the door.”
Franks gives Gibbs, who is still studying the map of the base, a look.
“Where at?” Franks responds to whatever Randy has said, but we know there’s been another crime committed.
