NBC Renews TV Affiliate Agreement With Nexstar

Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Nexstar Media have renewed their ongoing distribution deal across dozens of NBC affiliate TV stations.

The companies announced the renewal news Wednesday. Financial terms of the refreshed deal were not disclosed.

The new pact is a multi-year agreement across NBC TV Network affiliates in 33 markets in the U.S., including 29 stations owned by Irving, Texas-based TV station giant group Nexstar, three owned by Mission Broadcasting and one owned by White Knight Broadcasting. Combined, the 33 stations have a reach of more than 14 million U.S. TV households.

Nexstar’s extension of its carriage deal with NBC means the network’s current primetime series, including Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order” and “Chicago” franchises, Zachary Quinto-led medical drama “Brilliant Minds,” “Deal or No Deal Island,” and daytime staples like the “Today” show will continue to air without interruption across those affiliate stations.

The NBC-Nexstar renewal comes one day after NBCUniversal parent company Comcast re-upped its distribution pact with Paramount Global. That deal guarantees Paramount-owned channels remain available for Comcast’s Xfinity customers. Meanwhile, Nexstar has to continue to sort out its current distribution pacts for broadcaster CW, which it acquired from Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022.

As ongoing carriage deals like these continue to become more complicated by the inclusions of access to different streaming services — like Paramount’s Paramount+ With Showtime and BET+, or NBCU’s Peacock — the arrangements take longer to hammer out beyond the usual financial terms and annual price hikes.
