NBC Nabs Liz & Jeff Astrof Cheerleading Comedy ‘Stumble’ As Put Pilot; Monica Aldama To EP

EXCLUSIVE: In a competitive situation with multiple bidders, NBC has landed single-camera comedy Stumble with a put pilot commitment. Stumble is a mockumentary about the ridiculously high stakes and competitive world of junior college cheer.

With the pitch landing at NBC, Stumble will be produced by sibling Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

The Astrof siblings have worked together, with Liz serving as a consulting producer on two series co-created/executive produced by Jeff, NBC’s Trial & Error and Starz’s Shining Vale. Honor executive produced both Jeff’s and Liz’s most recent series as creators, Shining Vale, and Fox’s Pivoting, respectively.

Largely ushered in by The Office, the mocumentary style of single-camera comedy remains popular, with NBC’s freshman St. Denis Medical and ABC’s Abbott Elementary as popular current examples.

Liz Astrof most recently served as co-executive producer on ABC’s Not Dead Yet starring Gina Rodriguez. Her series credits also include Last Man Standing, 2 Broke Girls and The Conners. Jeff Astrof’s credits also include The New Adventures Of Old Christine, Grounded For Life and Ground Floor. Both are repped by CAA. Jeff is also with Gendler, Kelly & Cunningham.
