Sunrise's Natalie Barr laughs off awkward Oscars snubs
After almost two decades on the desk at Sunrise, Natalie Barr was live at the Oscars for the very first time this morning.
The veteran journalist, who was sure to bring along a packet of TimTams in an attempt to draw in some of Hollywood’s best, tried to take the chaos of the red carpet in her stride, even while getting ignored not once, but twice, by A-listers.
Reporting live to The Morning Show’s Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies this morning, Nat had a bit of a hiccup when she tried to call over actress Kirsten Dunst only to be awkwardly brushed aside.
“Now the big stars are arriving,” Nat said in the cross, “We’ve got Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons, who are the stars of The Power of the Dog, they’re right here,” she excitedly added, pointing to the celebs who were standing beside her speaking to reporters from US television network ET.
“They’re just being interviewed by ET as we can see, after they talk to them I’m going to try and snap them,” Nat explained to camera, and proceeded to call out to them as soon as they turned away from the ET crew.
“Hi guys! Hi, Australian breakfast TV…” she yelled, as Kristen muttered a quick, “sorry,” and she and Jesse walked right on by.
“Oh sorry, sorry!” Nat said, as Kylie and Larry burst into laughter back in the studio.
“Sorry, I tried… Sorry, they ran right past me! It’s really hard!”
Fortunately for Nat, she was later able to coax Kirsten and her The Power of the Dog co-star Jesse over for a quick interview where she congratulated them for their nomination and complimented Kristen’s cherry red dress.

However, it wasn’t enough to stop Larry from cheekily remarking, “Get some more people Nat, you need to get some more people!”
Nat's TimTam fail with Venus Williams
Being positioned next to the big international TV crews wasn't doing Nat any favours and she later had a rather embarrassing deja vu moment when the same thing happened with Venus Williams.
Nat repeatedly yelled out to the tennis great, and even tried to offer her some TimTams, but it all fell on deaf ears.
"Venus, Venus hi!" she called out, "Australian TV! Hello? Venus!"
Getting desperate, Nat yelled, "Venus, we love tennis!" and "Would you like a TimTam? It's an Australian delicacy," but to no avail, Venus did not turn around.
Nat spent much of the morning joking about how hectic the red carpet is and how much she felt like a novice, but she did manage to get some good celeb chats, including one with fellow Aussie Nicole Kidman.
