Naomi Watts completely unrecognisable after 'surprising' makeover

The actress is filming the second instalment of Ryan Murphy's series Feud.

Naomi Watts is one of the most recognisable Aussie faces in Hollywood, but the star looked totally unrecognisable as she filmed the second season of Ryan Murphy's Feud in New York City. The 54-year-old is starring as real-life socialite Barbara 'Babe' Paley, one of Truman Capote's close friends, in the second instalment of the show titled Feud: Capote's Women.

Naomi sported a voluminous grey wig, a brown fur-trimmed coat, brown pants, and leather gloves, with the star's look topped off with dark eye makeup, making her appear unrecognisable as she walked the streets in character.

The show will cover Capote's social circle after he became the toast of high society following the release of his book In Cold Blood and his second, unfinished book, Answered Prayers, which was a scandalous tell-all in which he mined his friends' lives for material.

The writer released an excerpt titled 'La Côte Basque 1965' in which it was clear that the characters were barely disguised versions of his friends, with the book covering the group's extramarital affairs and even the story of one women who shot her husband.

Capote's friendships with women such as Babe were destroyed as they worried he would publish intimate details about their lives.

The miniseries will begin in the 1970s and end with Capote's death in 1984, with White Lotus star Tom Hollander as the famous writer.

After the Instagram account Diet Prada shared a photo of Naomi filming the show last year, many people shared their excitement for it, with designer Marc Jacobs writing, "Cannot wait."

"Wasn’t sold on Naomi as Babe but now seeing this, she’s PERFECT," a third said of Naomi's casting.

"Naomi look good with darker hair, surprised by how much it suits her," someone else added.

Speaking of her character, Naomi described her as "an incredible woman", telling Entertainment Weekly, "It’s such an iconic time and very interesting for women in particular."

"As Truman [Capote] described her, her only imperfection was that she was so perfect."

In another chat with the publication, she opened up about having her first big Hollywood role in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive at 33.

"I was told, 'You better get a lot done because it’s all over at 40 when you become unf**kable,'" she said. "And I’m like, 'What? What does that mean exactly?' Then you think about it, and you go, 'Oh, right. When you are no longer reproductive, when those organs are no longer functioning, you are not sexy, so, therefore, you are not hirable.' That just made me so mad."

She continued, "We don’t talk about a man aging hardly ever. We don’t talk about his gray hair. In fact, if we do, it’s like, ‘Oh, he gets more handsome, more desirable, more powerful.’ And why is he powerful? Because he’s accumulated experiences. Well, it should be the same for women. We’ve got important and powerful experiences as well at this age that we should feel proud of."
