My Kitchen Rules' Nigella Lawson shocks fans with air fryer confession

The food writer has been critical about the must-have gadget in the past.

My Kitchen Rules judge Nigella Lawson has surprised her fans by revealing that she’s only recently used an air fryer for the very first time.

The beloved British TV cook, 63, has long been outspoken about her hesitancy towards the modern kitchen appliance on social media, however, she brought it out for her new BBC Christmas special, Nigella’s Amsterdam Christmas.

Nigella told viewers that she used an air fryer to crisp chicken for her spicy Indonesian biryani, describing the technique as “a little something extra”.

“When I cooked the chicken thighs they were skinless and that is because I removed the skin and whopped them at max in the air fryer to make chicken crackling to sprinkle over the top,” she explained.

Nigella first admitted on X, formerly known as Twitter, in 2019 that she had never used an air fryer before. She repeated this for the next few years when fans asked her for air fryer cooking advice and revealed in 2022 that she had never even seen an air fryer being used.

“I don’t have an air fryer, nor have I ever seen one in action, though I must remedy that!” she wrote at the time.

Nigella then shared in February this year that she had finally borrowed an air fryer from a friend but “can’t seem to warm to it”.

“I can see that it is great for reducing energy expenditure, but so far I haven’t found it does anything better than usual cooking methods,” she remarked.

When asked by a fan in May if she would ever release an air fryer cookbook, Nigella confessed it’s not something she thinks will happen but was hopeful Poppy O’Toole’s new cookbook would “convert” her.

Nigella's bizarre feud with Jason Momoa

Nigella’s cooking confession comes shortly after she made an awkward appearance on the BBC’s The One Show alongside Jason Momoa which sparked rumours of a ‘feud’ between the pair.

The Aquaman star caused outrage on social media after he turned his back on Nigella while engaging in conversation with Irish actor James Nesbitt.

The conversation block happened when the two men were talking about their acting careers, with Jason shifting to face James before further blocking Nigella when James talked about auditioning for Game of Thrones, the show that made Jason an international star.

“What's Nigella done to upset Jason Momoa then?" one person asked on X alongside a screenshot of the show.

“Very rude body language by Jason Momoa, putting his back to Nigella,” another added, while a third said, “How bad-mannered of the big guy Jason Momoa? Cutting her out of the conversation”.
