A mum-to-be has been left panicked after her family decided her top baby name was better suited to a dog.

The shock admission came in an online forum which saw the woman reveal her loved ones ‘pulls a face’ when she tells them her favourite baby name – Huxley.

“I know it doesn’t matter what others think, but… We’ve fallen in love with the name Huxley but whenever I tell anyone they pull a face and say it’s a dog’s name,” she told Netmums.

“I’m trying to stick to what my partner and I like but it’s so disheartening.

Asking: “Can you just ignore negative opinions or should I be listening to them?”

However, users were divided as to whether the woman’s friends had a right to have their say in naming the baby-to-be, with some saying they had previously been in similar predicaments.

“I didn’t tell anyone our baby’s name ’til she was here,” wrote one woman.

“In the early days when I suggested a name and someone said ‘ewwww’ I’d reply jokingly with ‘well if that’s what I decide you don’t need to hold her if you don’t like her name’ and it would shut people up.”

Others actually defended the mum-to-be’s name pick revealing they too thought Huxley was a moniker more suited to a baby than their four-legged friend.

“Huxley is a lovely name!” wrote one woman, adding it: “doesn’t sound like a name that your child will have trouble with in school later on.”

But not all were convinced, with some users even admitting they may dub the moniker on their own future pooch.

“It’s the perfect name for a dog. Not a baby. In fact I might steal it for my puppy.”
