MTV VMAs 2023 red carpet: Doja Cat shocks with revealing spiderweb dress
Here's what the stars wore to the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards.
From Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress to Miley Cyrus’ controversial teddy bear bodysuit, celebrities have been bringing their wildest and most outrageous looks to the MTV Video Music Awards for decades.
This year’s ceremony is no different, with some of music’s biggest stars appearing to embrace a sheer dress trend while walking the pink carpet in New York on Tuesday.
Doja Cat
Doja Cat, who currently has the number one song in the US with her catchy rap single Paint the Town Red, wasn’t afraid to bare all in a cobweb-style dress. While she opted to go braless for the event, she wore nude underwear under the revealing white gown.
Megan Thee Stallion
Fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion also left very little to the imagination in a floor-length black sheer corset gown designed by Brandon Blackwood. She had her hair slicked back and styled the look with a diamond choker necklace, bracelet and stud earrings.
Karol G
Colombian singer Karol G, who will be making her VMA performance debut, also jumped on the nude dress bandwagon.
Taylor Swift
The Anti-Hero hitmaker and 2022 Video of the Year winner wore an asymmetrical black button-down Versace dress accessorised with gold chain necklaces.
Olivia Rodrigo
Less than a week after releasing her sophomore album GUTS, Olivia Rodrigo brought the glamour to the VMAs red carpet in a sparkly silver column dress.
Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato leaned into her rock era with an all-black ensemble featuring a comically large leather jacket.
Cardi B
Cardi B wowed in a silver form-fitting strapless dress made out of hair clips, complete with matching cuffs.
Selena Gomez
Selena wore a show-stopping lacy red dress with a thigh-high slit at her first VMAs in eight years.
Nicki Minaj
The award ceremony’s host shut down the carpet in a pink bridal-inspired look, which included a veil.
Shakira
This year’s Video Vanguard Award recipient rocked a gold cut-out dress with her hair styled down in waves.
Tinashe
Tinashe turned heads in a daring look that definitely won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
Bebe Rexha
Not only did Bebe Rexha’s black dress feature cut-outs showing off her backside, but it also had a tail.
The 40th MTV VMAs are hosted by Nicki Minaj for her second year in a row and will see performances from Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, Demi Lovato, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo and Video Vanguard Award recipient Shakira.
Taylor Swift leads the nominations with 11 nods, closely followed by SZA with eight, and Blackpink, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Olivia Rodrigo each with six.
The 2023 ceremony also marks the first time that only women have been nominated in the show’s Artist of the Year category.
