Based on the gripping book “13 Days, 13 Nights in the Hell of Kabul” by commander Mohamed Bida – oversaw the exfiltration of the French Embassy and the local population fleeing the new extremist regime — the film was penned by Alexandre Smia with adaptation and dialogue co-written by Bourboulon. Chapter 2, a Mediawan company, is producing the film with Pathé, which is also representing the movie internationally and will distribute it in French theaters.

Set on Aug. 15, 2021 in Kabul, the movie follows US troops as they are preparing to withdraw from Afghanistan, while the Taliban are marching on the capital to seize power. “Amid the chaos, Commander Mohamed Bida and his men are in charge of security at the French embassy, the last Western mission to remain open. Trapped along with 500 people, left to their own devices, the team with the help of Eva, a young French-Afghan humanitarian, must reach the airport at all costs. A perilous mission with no guarantee of success to flee the hell of Kabul and rescue what remains of humanity,” reads the synopsis.

The movie is led by a high profile cast, including Roschdy Zem, who plays Commander Bida, Lyna Khoudri, Sidse Babett Knudsen and Christophe Montenez.

“As a director I am drawn toward projects that are both large in scope, tailored for the big screen, yet remain emotional, and character-driven, and this true story is a perfect balance of both,” Bourboulon previously said about the project.
