Following past comments about her interest in the role — not to mention her newly blonde locks — the 21-year-old actress spoke with Access Hollywood about the possibility of playing Spears at the premiere of her new movie The Electric State in Los Angeles on Monday, Feb. 24.
"I mean, she is an absolute icon," Brown said of Spears, 43. "I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story."
"But," adds the Stranger Things actress, "that’s her story, and I am in full support of her bringing her story to life how she wants to.”

Millie Bobby Brown at the premiere of The Electric State in Los Angeles on Feb. 24, 2025Brown expressed interest in playing the pop star on the silver screen during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show in November 2022.
"I want to play a real person and I think for me, Britney. [It] would be Britney Spears. I think her story, first of all, resonates with me," she told host Drew Barrymore.
"Just growing up in the public eye watching her videos, watching interviews of how when she was younger. I mean, same thing with you," Brown continued. "I see the scramble for words [in her interviews] and I don't know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only."
The next day, Spears herself took to Instagram to make it clear she was not thrilled by the idea. And while she didn't mention Brown by name, the "Toxic" singer wrote, "I hear about people wanting to do movies about my life … dude I'm not dead !!!"

Universal Pictures later secured the rights to Spears' bestselling 2023 memoir The Woman in Me after a "highly competitive auction," announcing in August 2024 that a biopic based on the book was officially in the works, from Wicked director Jon M. Chu and produced by Marc Platt.
Spears wrote on X at the time, "Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies … stay tuned."
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter in November 2024, Chu, 45, said that Spears "represents a generation of people growing up in the 2000s and late ’90s."
“She has a story that deserves to be told properly,” the filmmaker added. “There’s a lot about us in it.”
The Electric State is streaming March 14 on Netflix.
