Miley Cyrus Reveals Secret About Her Famed TV Character and Fans Are Shocked: 'I Cannot Begin to Imagine'

Fans of Miley Cyrus are reeling after the “Flowers” hitmaker revealed an unexpected styling detail about her character on Hannah Montana.

The former Disney Channel star, who played the title character of the popular teen sitcom from 2006 through early 2011, mentioned the styling choice during a recent appearance on Harper’s Bazaar’s new The Good Buy podcast. Cyrus, 32, was discussing some of the looks she has liked and disliked over the years since her breakthrough as a child actress on the Nov. 29 episode when her history with hair extensions came up as she was describing her love of fringe.

“There was an era of mine where, like, the fringe would go from under the bust down to the bottom of the boot. It was just—it was wearing me,” she said of the fashion style. “And I also had 250 individual hair extensions, and so there was just a lot of down.”

The two-time Grammy Award winner was referencing the long hair she wore on Hannah Montana. When the podcast’s hosts asked for clarification on her past hair extension volume, Cyrus explained that her mother, Tish Cyrus, was a big part of the style choice. “If it was under 250, my mom wasn’t having it,” she said. “Tish would say, ‘We need another row.’”

When a Cyrus fan account shared a clip from the interview on X, formerly Twitter, fans responded with shock and sudden understanding.

“And I truly thought that was her real hair,” one fan wrote as another echoed the reaction, writing, “I thought that was her hairrr omg” and a third said they too “thought this was all natural” when they were younger.

“That hair was so iconic tho,” one fan recalled.

Others speculated about how uncomfortable they thought the hair extensions likely were to wear, with one X user writing, “i cannot begin to imagine living without being able to touch your scalp to that extent,” adding that they “always thought she had naturally thick hair and some extensions, but 250 individual wefts of hair placed around your head??” The “weight and upkeep” of the extensions “would drive most people insane lol,” the X user tweeted.

Another X user suggested Cyrus’ early hair extension use might have inspired her later looks, writing, “honestly after hearing this now i understand why she went full on pixie after.”
