Miley Cyrus on being queer in a hetero relationship

Miley Cyrus has opened up about being a ‘queer person’ in a heterosexual relationship, saying she won’t let her marriage to Liam Hemsworth change how she defines herself.

The 26-year-old singer started dating Liam, 29, almost 10 years ago after meeting him on the set of the 2010 movie The Last Song. The pair married in December in an intimate ceremony at their Tennessee home.

In an interview for Vanity Fair, Miley said she considers her marriage to be ‘new age’ rather than ‘old fashioned’ because she is an openly pansexual woman who has a husband.

“We’re redefining, to be f***ing frank, what it looks like for someone that’s a queer person like myself to be in a hetero relationship,” Miley said in the interview.

“A big part of my pride and my identity is being a queer person.”

The singer posted images from the Vanity Fair photoshoot to her Instagram page, showing her wearing a completely see-through mesh top.

In another snap, she held her arm up, showing off each of her unique tattoos which are dotted around her body.

The Wrecking Ball hitmaker tragically lost the home in Malibu that she shared with Liam during the California wildfire last year, and it was the devastation that the blaze caused which made them want to take the next step as a couple.

“I wore a dress on my wedding day because I felt like it, I straightened my hair because I felt like it, but that doesn’t make me become some instantly ‘polite hetero lady.’ (PS: Straight women are badass, too.),” she said.

Last week, Aussie actor Liam, opened up about their decision to get married after 10 years together.

“We’ve been through so much together over the last 10 years, so felt like it was time,” Liam said on Sunday, in an interview with the Today show.

“I feel really happy and really fortunate to be with such a great person.”

The loved-up pair then tied the knot in December in their Tennessee home, surrounded by family and friends, including Liam’s Thor actor brother, Chris.

Miley wore a simple silk dress by Vivienne Westwood, Liam wore a pair of Vans and they posted adorable snaps from the day to their Instagram accounts.
