Michelle Obama embraced the Western trend in lace-up cowboy pants
Michelle Obama is here for the Western fashion renaissance.
The former first lady of the United States tapped the trend as she made an appearance at South by Southwest (SXSW) yesterday in Austin, Texas.
Obama wore a burnt-orange set composed of boxy, cropped jacket and wide-leg trousers. The outerwear was a workwear-inspired design with a sharp collar and small pockets with triangle-shaped lace-up details below them. The trousers were high-waisted and had the same brown lace-up design as the jacket, though this one was centred at the waistline and kept the trousers cinched tight.
Obama paired the cowboy-inspired co-ord with classic staples: a black t-shirt, glossy black boots, dangly diamond earrings, and some diamond rings—including her wedding band from husband Barack Obama.
At SXSW, Mrs. Obama joined her brother, Craig Robinson, who is the executive director of the National Association of Basketball Coaches, on stage for a lively conversation about business. The two are launching a podcast together, titled “IMO” (for in my opinion), where they will discuss “everyday questions shaping our lives, relationships and the world around us,” per a press release.
Obama’s appearance today marks her first public engagement in quite a while. The former first lady was notably absent from Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration earlier this year, as well as from Jimmy Carter’s state funeral—where she would have been seated next to Trump. Her husband, former President Barack Obama, attended both events solo.
