Michael Strahan Absence from 'GMA' Continues Into Second Week

Michael Strahan still hasn't returned to Good Morning America.

The retired NFL player and morning talk show host continues to be missing from his usual spot on the ABC program, and was once again replaced by GMA correspondent Rebecca Jarvis during the Tuesday, July 2 broadcast.

His latest absence marks the second week in a row that Strahan, 52, has been away from the GMA studio, not appearing in a broadcast since Friday, June 21. Neither Strahan nor any of his co-hosts have confirmed a reason behind his lengthy absence.

The former Giants player was also absent from the show back in early June, around the same time that his daughter Isabella Strahan was finishing the last of her chemotherapy treatments.

The 19-year-old was diagnosed with a brain tumor in October 2023, and has since undergone three craniotomies and four rounds of chemo. As seen in her YouTube vlog series, Isabella's famous dad was in attendance for the joyful celebration where she got to ring the hospital's chemo bell.

It's possible that Strahan has been away from GMA to spend more time with his family following Isabella's good news, especially after he previously opened up about his new perspective on family life.

Strahan explained in a GMA interview that the experience of witnessing Isabella's difficult cancer journey has completely changed his outlook, especially when it comes to spending time with his kids.

"You'd think I'm the athlete, the tough guy, the father in the family. It is not about any of that. It has really made me change my perspective on so many things," he said, per CBS Sports. "I love my life and I enjoy my life, but at some point, my kids are in college, I want to be able to go to college and say, 'Yeah let's take a trip.'"
