Emotional Michael Clarke recalls moment his daughter stopped breathing
Michael and Kyly Clarke have spoken of their most harrowing night as new parents, and the moment they feared for their daughter Bella.
The former Australian cricket captain and model Kyly appeared on A Current Affair last night to share the horrifying experience when they realised something was wrong with their baby girl.
“All I could see, hear and feel was that she was having trouble breathing,” the former sports star told the news program.
The parents explained that the moment they realised what was happening, they were gobsmacked.
“We were really shocked,” Kyly said. “Obviously we weren't confident parents because she's our firstborn. She's only young.”
They scrambled to call an ambulance, but terrified dad Michael decided he wasn’t going to wait.
“I think you rang the ambulance and in the meantime I said, 'Nah, I'm not going to wait for the ambulance, get in the car',” he said to his wife.
The horrifying ordeal finally came to end once the doctors stabilised Bella’s breathing, and delivered the common, but scary news.
A common, but dangerous condition
Bella has asthma, just like one in 10 Aussies.
Such a common illness, it can be easy to forget how terrifying an episode can be, particularly with vulnerable kids.
Organisations like Asthma Australia have handy guidelines for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation, and the Clarkes recommended a brand new app -not yet approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration - Respiri.
Michael and Kyly welcomed Bella back in 2015, with the toddler now four years old and bursting with personality.
Regular Instagram snaps show the proud parents besotted with their little girl whose bubbly quirks regularly win over fans.
Michael is now a sports commentator with Nine’s Wide World of Sport, and Kyly is a model and interior designer.
