Next time you’re in a coffee shop, perk up and look around. In Croatia, 58 per cent of men have picked up a woman in a coffee shop, compared with just 17.5 per cent of Australian guys. They’re not gulpers; it’s a slow seduction: “We consume coffee slowly, sip by sip,” says Dr Aleksandar Stulhofer from the University of Zagreb’s Sexology Unit in Croatia. “People can spend an hour or more over a cup of cappuccino. Obviously, a lot can happen in an hour.” If you spot a babe in the Gloria Jean’s line, try this tactic: “A Croatian man would ask to pay the bill of the woman he likes,” says Dr Goran Arbanas, a psychiatrist and sexual medicine specialist in Croatia. If she’s seated, “he would ask if the spot next to her is occupied,” he says. “Then he would compliment her.” Your brew helps: women are twice as likely to give out their phone number when approached in a delicious-smelling locale, reports The Journal of Environmental Psychology.
