Hidden message in Melania Trump's election day outfit
Melania Trump wore a $4,500 Gucci dress to cast her vote in the 2020 US presidential election in the key swing-state of Florida, and it’s got people online talking.
Twitter has exploded with theories about the hidden meaning in the First Lady's outfit choice, which featured a chain-linked pattern.
On closer inspection the pattern is made up of horse bits - an item of a horse's tack which controls the horses mouth.
Others also compared the pattern to ‘chains’ or ‘handcuffs’.
“We just saw Melania Trump wearing her dress to vote and it had handcuffs all over it,” one person tweeted. “They are in control.”
“I was going to tweet a joke about the chains on Melania's dress, but I'm sure someone beat me to it somewhere on here,” another person said.
“Melania sending a message saying she’s in chains, she’s divorcing him soon,” was another comment.
While a fourth person wrote: “Does Melania think that dress will inspire empathy for her?”
There were a few people who were outraged at how expensive the dress was, given how many people have lost their jobs as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“Oh! so Melania is wearing a $4500 dress for election day while her husband is hundreds of millions in debt to foreigners & millions of Americans lost their jobs & healthcare,” one outraged person tweeted.

Though Trump fans took the outfit choice as a sign of something else - namely a Trump re-election.
“Melania’s cryptic message is to be found in the patterns on her dress. Links. Continuation. Second term,” one person pointed out.
It wasn’t only the pattern on her dress that sparked a reaction on Tuesday. People online were also outraged by the fact the First Lady opted not to wear a face mask.
She was the only person at the polling place not to wear a face covering.
Ms Trump's spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said the first lady was the only person at the polling site, with the exception of a couple of poll workers and her own staffers, all of whom were tested.
Grisham said no one was near the first lady “because of social distancing and the privacy” people received when they voted.
The first lady last month said she had recovered from a bout of Covid-19 that included headaches, body aches and fatigue.
