Melania Trump Says Donald Wanted More Kids, but She Was ‘Perfectly Fine’ with One: ‘I’m in Charge of Everything’
The couple, who married in 2005, share 18-year-old son Barron Trump together
Melania Trump said her husband, former President Donald Trump, was "encouraging" them to have more kids after welcoming their son Barron in 2006, but she was "perfectly fine with one"
"I know how busy he is... and I'm in charge of everything," the former first lady said in an interview with Fox & Friends
"It's just perfect," Melania insisted of having one child, admitting that the couple have a "very busy life"
Melania Trump is opening up about whether she and her husband, former President Donald Trump, ever considered having more children.
While speaking on Fox News Channel’s Fox & Friends about her upcoming memoir, Melania, the former first lady, 54, said that Donald, 78, would've liked to have more kids after the couple welcomed their son Barron on March 20, 2006.
"I was always perfectly fine with one. And Donald was encouraging [us] to have more," Melania told host Ainsley Earhardt in the interview, which aired on Thursday, Sept. 26. "And I said, like, 'I'm completely fine with one because it's [a] very busy life.' "
"I know how busy he is... and I'm in charge of everything. So that's why. It's just perfect," she added of life with their 18-year-old son, who recently started classes at New York University in Manhattan.
Host Ainsley mentioned that in Melania's forthcoming memoir, there's a "chaotic" but relatable image of the former model working at her desk while surrounded by Barron's books "all over the floor" and her son sitting in a toy car.
Melania, who married Donald in 2005, insisted that it was important to her that Barron saw her working from an early age.
"I think it's very important that we show our children that we are working too. To give them an example [of] how life is," she said, adding, "That they see us, that we are productive, that we have ideas, that ideas come to life. And, that's how I was showing Barron."
Melania is also stepmom to Donald's four other children; the former president shares sons Don Jr., 46, and Eric, 40, as well as daughter Ivanka, 42, with his late ex-wife Ivana Trump — who died at age 73 in July 2022 — and daughter Tiffany, 30, with his ex-wife Marla Maples, 60.
While speaking on Fox & Friends about any advice she has for blended families, Melania said, "To take [an] individual as they are. You cannot control anyone. You could control only your own behavior, your own words. Everybody is in control of [their] own self. I'm not in control of my husband. I'm not in control of his children. I'm not even in control of my child. He's his own person."
"We all have yes and no's. And we are all individuals. Once you lead your life with respect and love... that's all [that] matters," she added.
Despite Barron now heading to college, Melania insisted she doesn't consider herself "an empty nester."
"I don't feel that way," she said in the interview. "I raised Barron as [his] own person and gave him his own yes and nos. I respect that. It was his decision to come here that he wants to be in New York and study in New York and live in his home, and I respect that."

"He's [an] incredible young man. I'm very proud... His strength, his intelligence, his knowledge, his kindness. It's admirable. He's enjoying his college days. I hope he will have a great experience because his life is very different than any other 18, 19 year old child," Melania admitted.
Melania Trump's new memoir, Melania, is set to be released Oct. 8.
