Meghann Fahy Goes on Nightmare First Date in ‘Drop’ Trailer
What is worse than an awkward first date?
A first date involving a stalker troll, kidnapping, and homicide (probably).
On Mar. 25, Universal Pictures released a new trailer for Drop, a heart-pounding thriller about Violet (Meghann Fahy), a widowed mother, who goes on her first date in years with Henry (Brandon Sklenar), a man she met on a dating app. At first, everything is great. The restaurant is fancy, Henry is lovely, and Violet is having a wonderful time. However, things take a chilling turn when Violet begins to receive a series of increasingly aggressive anonymous drops to her phone, blackmailing her to murder Henry. And if she doesn’t, they will kill everyone she loves.
Produced by Blumhouse Production and directed by Christopher Landon, known for his work on Happy Death Day and the Paranormal Activity franchise, the film deals with the themes of compromised technology and anonymity, examining how these elements might influence the way people engage in romance during the digital age.
Along with Fahy and Sklenar, Drop stars Violette Beane, Reed Diamond, Jacob Robinson, Gabrielle Ryan, and Jeffrey Self, with Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach listed as co-writers.
The film first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival to positive reviews, with early reactions describing it as a perfect date night movie filled with suspense, clever subversions of romantic genre tropes, and great performances from Fahy and Sklenar.
In an interview with People, Fahy talks about getting spooked her first time watching the film, even though she knew what was coming.
“[It] feels like watching a classic thriller — you’re on the ride with these characters in real time, not knowing what’s going to happen next,” Fahy said. “I was on the edge of my seat watching it for the first time, and I made the movie!”
Set to release in theatres on Apr. 11, Drop might just be the film that gets everyone off the dating apps for good.
