Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie's Matching $591 Earrings Have a Hidden Meaning
Eugenie most recently wore the dainty hoops during an event with King Charles.
Members of the royal family are known to make a statement when it comes to their jewels of choice, whether it be sharing meaningful messages about their health like Kate Middleton, or honoring their past loved ones like Queen Camilla, who recently gave a nod to Queen Elizabeth by pulling out one of the late queen's tiaras. Meghan Markle and Princess Eugenie are no exception, and wore the same earrings to different events.
Eugenie attended King Charles's pre-Christmas lunch this year and wore an accessory with a special meaning. For the occasion, she donned the Sophie Lis Fallen Star Hoop Earrings which retail for $591. The sparkling earrings feature a hoop with a bedazzled charm shaped like the North star, which according to the website, "can represent good luck, good health, faith, success and protection from evil amongst many other things."
According to Marie Claire, Markle also wore the earrings during one of her last engagements before stepping down as a senior working royal. On March 9, 2020, Markle wore the earrings, as seen here in photos obtained by Daily Mail, while chatting with Commonwealth scholars at Buckingham Palace before the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey.
The earring choice was a poignant one, as Markle and Prince Harry officially wrapped their royal tenure at the end of the month on March 31. Markle and Harry's final royal engagement was also on March 9, 2020, with their attendance at the annual Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey.
Eugenie may have chosen to wear the earrings for a similar reason. She and sister Princess Beatrice have been supporting their dad, Prince Andrew, amid his recent troubles, after his rumored connection with an alleged Chinese spy, pending removal from Royal Lodge, and his turbulent relationship with Charles.
Eugenie and Beatrice reportedly "take the grandchildren to visit him most weekends," a source told Hello! "They are spending far more time with him now than they have done in recent years. They are quite close to their father; they seem to be quite protective towards him."
