Meghan Markle has paid emotional tribute to her beloved rescue dog Guy after his sad death.
In the video’s moving caption, Meghan explained that Guy was actually close to being euthanized in the Kentucky kill shelter where he was being housed when she learned of his cruel fate and stepped in to rescue him.
Calling him “the best guy any girl could have asked for,” Meghan detailed the sweet way Guy was by her side throughout key moments in her life — including working on Suits, and falling in love with Harry, who she married in 2018.
Through all of this, Guy suffered hardships of his own, and spent “several months” having surgeries after a “terrible accident” that left vets convinced that the pup “would never walk again.”
Needless to say, Meghan has been left overcome with sadness following Guy’s death — admitting that she has “cried too many tears to count” as she thanked her beloved pet for the years of “unconditional love” that he gave her.
She also told followers that they will be given the opportunity to fall in love with Guy, too, because he is set to feature in her upcoming Netflix seriesWith Love, Meghan, which was filmed last year.
Meghan’s full caption reads: “In Memory of Guy. In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue in Canada. He had been at a kill shelter in Kentucky and given a few days to live. I swooped him up….and fell in love. They referred to him as ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I named him ‘Guy’. And he was the best guy any girl could have asked for.”
The accompanying video also gives followers an insight into the whole family’s meaningful relationship with Guy, with Archie being heard sharing his concern that Guy might “fall” during one clip of them in the backseat of a car while Harry is driving.
Our thoughts are with Meghan, Harry, Archie, and Lilibet at this heartbreaking time. You can watch Meghan’s full video tribute here, and in honor of Guy, let me know your favorite memories of your beloved pets in the comments!

Meghan Markle is “devastated” by the death of her rescue beagle, Guy, in what proved to be a rare look at the Sussexes’ life, one unfiltered by the gloss of Netflix. The singer paid tribute on Instagram to her husband of nearly two decades and reflected on the "chance" they took when they got married in 2006. You have loved me, hated me, and loved me again. I love our story no matter what gets written. It is gritty and sweet…”
