After nearly two years of remaining coy about romance rumors with Morgan Wallen, Megan Moroney is clearing the air.

During an appearance on Call Her Daddy on Wednesday, July 31, the "Man on the Moon" singer, 26, revealed that something romantic did happen between them — but it was never serious.

"Did you date Morgan Wallen?" host Alex Cooper asked directly.

"Never exclusively," she said. "I have tried to avoid that in every single interview I've ever done. But we're here now and time has passed and all is well."

Cooper, 29, then asked if her hit song "Tennessee Orange" was about him — and Moroney responded, "I will not say who I sing my songs about ever."

When Cooper asked why the relationship ended, Moroney hesitated to answer and eventually shared some small insights.

"It was never a relationship," the "Georgia Girl" singer said. "Here's what I'll tell you though because I haven't told anyone this ever. Him and I met in 2020. [Fellow country artist] Jon Langston actually introduced us. I was a senior in college — COVID hadn't happened yet, his Dangerous album wasn't even out yet. So we were friends for a long time."

She continued, "We were friends for a long time. We were not just friends. And now we're friends."

Cooper pushed for more information by asking how she kept their situation private, which Moroney said was "not that hard."

"I feel like he's a very private person," she said. "We weren't exclusively dating ever and I think that both of our schedules... when we tried to hangout it was like, 'OK, we have this one day of the whole month where we're both maybe in town and then the other has something going on.'"

She continued, "Because he's such a private person it just feels awkward talking about it."

When Moroney released her smash hit “Tennessee Orange,” fans were quick to link her to the "Last Night" singer, 31, who's a Vols fan, after the two started commenting on each other’s Instagram posts. Wallen also released a song called "Tennessee Fan."

Then, in an interview with SiriusXM’s The Highway in November 2022, Moroney confirmed the Vols shirt she wore in the promotional art for the song did belong to Wallen.

The Highway interview, everyone I think saw it as me being trying to be sly, but I'm like, I'm actually just having a panic attack,” Moroney told PEOPLE in June 2023. “I was honestly shocked that I even said that it was his shirt, but I guess since he had already confirmed it with the poster thing that he did, I was like, ‘Sure, yeah, it's his shirt.’”

She also said the rumors made her "really uncomfortable" but she's glad "people care" about her music.

“I'm not the kind of person that likes to talk about things like that,” she said. “All my songs are about people. ‘Tennessee Orange’ is a very nice song, but if I told people who it’s about, then they would ask me who ‘Sleep on My Side’ is about. I can’t tell you that because it’s not a nice song!” she explained with a laugh.

Moroney dropped her sophomore album, Am I Okay?, earlier this month.
