McDonald's new Collector's Meal comes with a collectible cup

McDonald’s collectible cups are gathering a fanbase — and a price tag to match.

The fast food chain rolled out the Collector’s Meal on Aug. 13. The limited-time meal pairs McDonald’s food items with one of six collectible cups, each decorated with nostalgic references. Now, the freebies are being resold for nearly $100 for a set.

Each plastic cup is covered with images of beloved characters including Beanie Babies, Barbie and Hot Wheels, Hello Kitty and Peanuts, a combination of Shrek, Jurassic Park and Minions, McDonald’s characters and Coca-Cola mascots. There are also illustrations of collectibles from previous Happy Meals, like the Gingerbread Man watch that was available at McDonald’s in 2010.

One set of all six cups is listed on eBay for $98. Another is going for $80. Individual cups are going for less — prices range from $11 to $25.

A representative for McDonald's did not provide a statement in response by press time.

Customers can score the cups when ordering a Collector’s Meal in-store, online or via the app. The combo comes in a few versions throughout the day. During breakfast hours, the meal includes a sausage and egg McMuffin, hash brown and hot coffee. During the rest of the day, fans have the choice of 10-piece McNuggets or a Big Mac with fries and a soft drink.

The cups, which are still available as of Aug. 16, are wrapped in blue plastic so the theme is not immediately visible.
