Maya Hawke Reacts to Being Called a 'Nepo Baby': 'It’s a Lucky Place to Be'
The 'Stranger Things' actress' parents are Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke
Maya Hawke is embracing her "nepo baby" title.
The actress, 25, opened up to The Times UK about having famous parents and how she feels "lucky" to have the privilege to pursue a career like theirs.
Hawke, whose parents are Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, said, "There are so many people who deserve to have this kind of life who don’t, but I think I’m comfortable with not deserving it and doing it anyway."
She added that not using the benefits that come with her background “wouldn’t help anyone.”
"I saw two paths when I was first starting, and one of them was: change your name, get a nose job and go to open casting roles," Hawke further explained.
Now, the Maestro actress has accepted the negative attention her social standing may bring her.
"It’s okay to be made fun of when you’re in rarefied air. It’s a lucky place to be. My relationships with my parents are really honest and positive, and that supersedes anything anyone can say about it," Hawke said.
Hawke made her onscreen debut in the 2017 BBC adaptation of Little Women opposite Jonah Hauer-King, Emily Watson and Kathryn Newton.
The actress then went on to star in Stranger Things, as well as Fear Street Part One: 1994, Do Revenge and Maestro.
She is next set to appear in the anticipated sequel to Inside Out, releasing in theaters on June 14, as the new character Anxiety.
Last year, Hawke starred in the biographical drama Wildcat, directed by her father. She told The Times that she tried to refer to her father as "Ethan" on set, but ended up going back to calling him "Dad."

“I like to do a thing where in every part that I play, plant a seed of truth, like some kind of little secret,” she said. “Actually, my dad taught me this, just to put some kind of thing about the character that speaks to who you really are and sneak some secret message to somebody in your life or to yourself or to your shrink or whatever it is into each job you do."
In addition to acting, Hawke has released three albums as a musician.
