Matthew Rhys To Headline Apple TV+ Series ‘Widow’s Bay’
Emmy winner Matthew Rhys has signed on to play the lead and executive produce Widow’s Bay, Apple TV+’s 10-episode series from creator Katie Dippold, with Hiro Murai set to direct the pilot.
Widow’s Bay is about a mysteriously cursed New England island and its superstitious citizens, led by a mayor (Rhys) who refuses to believe their warnings.

Rhys’ Mayor Tom Loftis is a no-nonsense single dad forced to deal with his town’s superstitious citizens who believe it’s cursed as he is desperately trying to put the area on the map as the next Nantucket.
From Apple Studios, Widow’s Bay will be showrun and executive produced by Dippold. In addition to directing, Murai will also produce alongside Claudia Shin and Carver Karaszewski as well as Rhys. Joanne Toll will co-executive produce.
Rhys, Emmy winner for FX’s The Americans, also played the title role in HBO’s Perry Mason. He is currently shooting the Netflix limited series The Beast In Me opposite Claire Danes. Rhys recently wrapped Towards Zero, a limited series adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic for Britbox and BBC1, and the movie Hallow Road opposite Rosamund Pike. He also recently portrayed George Carlin in the feature Saturday Night. At Apple, he previously was seen in the climate change drama Extrapolations. Rhys is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content and United Agents.
