Matt’s Inside Line: Scoop on Ghosts, The Rookie, Ahsoka, Downton Abbey, NCIS, The Recruit, The Way Home, Skeleton Crew, Matlock and More!
Is one of the Ghosts hiding a “top tier” power? Will The Way Home‘s young duo be seen again? Might an NCIS: Origins star’s real-life wife put in an appearance? Read on for answers to those questions and others! (You can and should email any brand-new Qs to InsideLine@tvline.com.)
I heard that we’re getting Hetty’s power this season on Ghosts. Is there anything that can be teased about that? –Mary
When asked about Hetty’s special and thus-far-concealed ability, series lead Rose McIver told TVLine, “It is one of the more impressive ghost powers. If there were tiers, it’s top tier.” Added co-star Utkarsh Ambudkar: “You wouldn’t be able to guess what it is. It’s wild, and the reason why it manifests is even wilder. It’s insane what the writers are doing this season. It’s really funny.”
More from TVLine
Will The Rookie have a Mother’s Day episode this season? –Shauna
As undoubtedly fun as it would be to see how Nyla and Angela are honored this time around, “We do not have a Mother’s Day episode this season,” showrunner Alexi Hawley answered. “We do have a Valentine’s Day episode, and we have an April Fool’s Day episode, both of which are very good.”
How many episodes of All American will air in Season 7? –Andrea
The CW drama’s soft reboot has a confirmed 13-episode order.
Any idea if Skeleton Crew‘s season ends with a cliffhanger? –Patrick
All I can share with you about the Star Wars series’ Tuesday, Jan. 14 finale is what the young cast — namely, Wim’s portrayer, Ravi Cabot-Conyers — tried to share in the TVLine video directly above (though some co-stars did their best to snuff any spoilers!).
Would you happen to know if Ahsoka is officially renewed yet? –Jacquie
As of a few weeks ago, Dave Filoni was “still writing it,” but a Disney+ rep assures me that Ahsoka Season 2 has been officially greenlit and is on track to begin filming in Spring 2025.
Is Javicco definitely dead on Dune: Prophecy? I mean, Desmond survived his own stabbing in the finale…. –Gwen
“Yes,” the emperor is truly and sincerely no more, showrunner Alison Schapker tells TVLine. “We love Mark Strong, and we’re very sad about it. He was a joy to work with, a tremendous actor and a tremendous human being, and his characterization of this particular emperor was brilliant. It was such a pleasure to watch him trace his arc across the season.” But, alas, “[Javicco] is dead,” the EP confirmed, and with his passing will come “a big power vacuum.”
Any news or scoops on Season 2 of The Recruit? –Chris
Given how Season 1 ended (a full two years ago!), you might not be surprised to hear that there will be no time jump when Season 2 (finally) arrives on Jan. 30, 2025. “No, we had a cliffhanger,” showrunner Alexi Hawley reminds, “so it’s a pretty immediate pickup coming back.”
Does Catchy Comedy’s “Iconic 70s Saturday Night” line-up mean that MeTV is losing M*A*S*H? I hope not. –Craig
No, I have been assured that M*A*S*H will continue to air weeknights on MeTV from 5-7 pm ET, and Sunday nights from 6-7 pm. Similarly, All In the Family will stay put on Sunday nights from 7-9 pm, and Carol Burnett and Friends will air weeknights at 10 pm, and on Sundays at 9:30 pm.
When Elsbeth returns, will we ever see her son help out with a case? –Claire
Teddy will “pop in from time to time, and we’ll get to see a bit more and learn a little more about him as the season goes on,” star Carrie Preston tells TVLine. But don’t expect him to get involved in his mom’s work.
Do we know who NCIS‘ Nick (aka “babe”) was texting with in the midseason finale? –Deb
“We will meet this person this season, and it is someone we have met before,” showrunner Steven D. Binder told me. In fact, “someone else in the squad room will be very annoyed” by Nick’s choice of romantic interest. (Maybe because it’s a fellow agent’s sister…?)
Is there any chance that Caity Lotz will appear on NCIS: Origins, seeing as her husband (Kyle Schmid) plays Mike Franks? Just a thought from a die-hard Arrow/Legends fan! — Leanne
I like how you think, Leanne! And we are not alone. “We’ve actually talked about that with Kyle — it was brought up one time before — and that’d be so awesome,” co-showrunner David J. North shared with me. “Caity is fantastic, and we’d be so lucky to have her.”
Will we continue to see Alex Hook and David Webster as The Way Home‘s Young Kat and Elliot? –Ivan
Hook and Webster do not appear in the first four episodes that we screened, but Young Colton, Del and Evelyn — wonderfully played by Jordan Doww (Stalked by a Reality Star), Julia Tomasone (Backstage) and Devin Cecchetto (Marry F*** Kill), respectively — are so engaging and raise so many new questions that you might not even miss Young Kat and Elliot.
When is the next season of Temptation Island going to premier, now that it’s going to stream on Netflix and not USA Network anymore?! I’ve been patiently (not so patiently) waiting for it! –Lindsay
I asked around on behalf of your patient-ish self, but alas, there is no confirmed timing yet for the series’ Netflix bow.
Any scoop on the second half of Matlock‘s season? –David
Skye P. Marshall, who plays Olympia, told me that “the craziest episode” of the CBS hit’s 18-episode freshman run is No. 17 — though “when you see the last two episodes, you’re going to wonder, ‘What are they going to do with Season 2 now?’ And I’m really excited about that.”
Big Downton Abbey fan here. Are you hearing anything about the third movie coming out next year? —Les
The third movie, due out in September, is “charming, and funny… a real love letter to all those characters,” says longtime Downton producer Gareth Neame (also an EP on Day of the Jackal). “It has a big new principal plot, but actually is chockablock with character, with their individual stories, with romance and with comedy. It’s a real spectacle, and I think the fans, hopefully, will really enjoy it. We’re just about finished editing it.”
Will CBS’ new soap opera, Beyond the Gates, be available on Paramount+? –Nicole
Paramount+ With Showtime subscribers will have access to stream live via the live feed of their local CBS affiliate on the service, as well as on demand. Paramount+ Essential subscribers will have access to on-demand the day after each episode airs. (And no, I haven’t heard back from CBS yet on whether CBS.com will be any sort of streaming option.)
