It was Grant Gillon, the 32-year-old director of sales at Kinship Brewing Co. from Altoona, Iowa, who had a slow and steady approach to MasterChef which helped him take home the title and all that comes with it.

"This is something that even unknowingly I’ve been training for for years, just cooking for friends and family,” Grant told Parade. “To have that push and the support from my family to go out and chase my dream like this, and then not only to move far and make the finale but to actually win, it’s just incredible. My goal at the beginning was like, if I can make it through [Top 10], I can come back home with my head held high and say, 'Hey, I gave it my best shot.' And so, to get this far is just absolutely surreal and I’ll never forget."
