Matt Preston's subtle dig at Channel 10 on The Project

Former MasterChef judge Matt Preston has taken a cheeky swipe at Channel 10 during an appearance on The Project on Wednesday night.

Speaking on the program to promote his new cookbook, More, discussion soon turned to one of his more memorable moments while on the cooking reality show - specifically his now famous ‘disgustingly delicious’ line from season two.

Comedian and host Tommy Little asked Matt about the scene, in which he purposefully dropped a plate on the ground during his assessment of contestant Arron Harvie’s dish.

“How many plates did you smash? Did they make you do take, after take, after take?” Tommy quizzed.

“It’s Channel 10. One plate,” was Matt’s hilarious response.

The entire panel, featuring Tommy, Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Aly, and Peter Helliar bust out laughing, with the latter adding: “He’s going swinging on the way out, isn’t he?”, referring to Matt’s move to rival network Channel 7.

Tommy joked he’ll go over to ‘plate central’ and sort it out, before Matt made one final dig.

“No. I’m referencing [the network being] fiscally responsible,” he added, before the discussion moved on.

It was revealed in October that Matt, as well as his former MasterChef co-star Gary Mehigan, were jumping ship to Channel 7 to front up a brand new program, Plate Of Origin.

My Kitchen Rules’ Manu Feildel was announced as the final member of the hosting trio, making it very clear that Matt and Gary’s controversial co-host George Calombaris was not part of their ‘package deal’.

Plate of Origin is an original format from Seven Studios that sees teams of cooks from diverse cultural backgrounds compete to see which of their chosen cuisines is the best.

“Food superstars Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan join Manu Feildel for Plate of Origin, where we’re not just reaching every corner of Australia… We’re going BIGGER! Which cuisine will reign supreme in this worldwide food fight?” was the caption on the network’s official Facebook post.

While there is currently no premiere date, Plate of Origin is expected to hit TV screens after the Tokyo Olympics wraps up in early August 2020.

Meanwhile, MasterChef will be continuing on 10 with Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong and Andy Allen taking over the judging panel. The trio came as somewhat shock picks, with other big name contenders previously voicing interest in the high-profile gig.

Favourites included the likes of Nigella Lawson, Curtis Stone and Poh Ling Yeow, who told Yahoo Lifestyle at the time she’d be ‘thrilled’ to take on the job.

However, all three are no strangers to the small screen, with Andy even first finding fame on MasterChef, when he won season four back in 2012.

In the time since, the 31-year-old has continued to ride the wave of success, launching his own restaurant Three Blue Ducks in Sydney along with creating food-based travel vlogs.

Similarly, Scottish-born Jock is best know for his Restaurant Orana in Adelaide—which has twice been named the country’s top eatery.

Melissa meanwhile, comes from the other side of the aisle, having crafted out an enviable career as a food critic and writer.

She perhaps most notably co-founded The Age and Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide, in addition to assisting with celebrity chef’s own cook books.
