Martin Short Roasts Jimmy Fallon for Loving Trump, Diddy, and Luigi Mangione
Martin Short stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, and immediately put his insult-comic skills to work.
“You must be very excited because in one month, you’re going to be pardoned for your role in January 6th,” he told Fallon early into the interview.
He soon added, “Let me say, James Luigi Mangione Fallon, you are a spirit of laughter and Christmas ... And I haven’t seen you since the ‘Free Diddy' Rally.”
Short also threw in some jabs at his longtime comedic partner Steve Martin, who starred with him alongside Selena Gomez throughout four seasons of Only Murders in the Building.
“Selena is so protective of Steve. Sometimes I look over, and he’s sitting there, and she’s just holding a mirror under his nose to see if everything’s OK,” Short said.
Short then called Martin “the palest, most ashen human being in the world,“ and added, ”He looks like Anderson Cooper froze to death on New Year’s Eve."
Although it may have seemed like Short had moved on from insulting Fallon with these Steve Martin jokes, things got heated after Fallon asked if Short needed a sip of water.
Short invited Fallon off-stage for a “quick talk behind the curtain.” Hidden from view, audiences could hear Martin yell at Fallon, “What was that comment about the water all about? ... You’re trying to bring up my drinking problem, aren’t you?”
Short was heard slapping Fallon, yelling, “Never, ever, ever disrespect me again, you Neanderthal-hairline bastard!”
The two comically fought behind the curtain twice more throughout the interview, reaching a point where Short took Fallon’s grandmother’s urn and smashed it on his head. Short may not have given Fallon the full Jiminy Glick treatment, but he still didn’t let him off easy.
