Martha Stewart Says She's Never Been with an 'Idle' Man: 'They Don't Interest Me'
The chef also revealed that when it comes to romantic partners, she does not "care so much about how you're feeling"
Martha Stewart does not have time for “idle” men — never has, never will.
While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday, Nov. 12, the lifestyle mogul, 83, discussed her lifelong philosophies about dating, relationships and men.
After host Drew Barrymore revealed that she related to the moment in Stewart’s new documentary, Martha, in which she speaks frankly about her love life, the cookbook author got even more candid about her past romantic experiences — including her aversion to men with sparse calendars.
“I loved when you talked about relationships,” Barrymore, 49, told Stewart. “I love when you reflected on your marriage and your life, but then also talked about [ex Charles Simonyi] and how you don't want to think about what he has to say that second. I get it.”
“Yeah, you know what I mean?” Stewart asked, as the host replied, “I really do.”
The celebrity chef went on to explain that when it comes to her romantic partners, “I don't care so much about how you're feeling. I care about what you're doing — and it's always been like that. I always care about what are people doing with themselves.”
And, when asked by Barrymore whether she has “ever been with an idle man,” the chef continued her recent streak of blunt and honest responses.
“Like, just like a man not doing anything? No, they don't interest me,” the star said, noting that she “wouldn't think of it."
Barrymore, meanwhile, revealed that she has — and “can't recommend” the experience. “It took me being with an idle man to realize that my motto is if you don't work, we don't work,” the host added.

The moment in Martha that sparked Barrymore and Stewart’s conversation centered on the lifestyle icon’s ex Simonyi, and occurs after she is asked if she's ever had "relationships where you talk about your feelings.”

“No, and that’s probably why I haven’t had very many personal relationships with men, for example,” Stewart says in the Netflix doc. “Because I couldn’t care less. I don’t know what the real reason is.”
Stewart continued, “It doesn't interest me so much to know 'Oh, Charles, how do you feel this second?’ I don't care actually. I do care about 'Charles what are you doing, what are you thinking about?' So I sort of gravitate towards people who are doing things all the time.”
“And I think more about everything that I’m doing, the things that I’m working on, things that I’d like to work on, things that I’d like to accomplish,” she concluded. “That’s where I’m best."
