Her story is both one of shock and amazement, the 14-year-old Pakistani girl who was targeted by the Taliban and attacked on a school bus for simply trying to do something most of us take for granted as a human right, the right to an education.

However Malala Yousafzai not only survived being shot in the head by the Taliban, she went on to continue fighting for the right for education for all, becoming the youngest ever winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

A new documentary, entitled He Named Me Malala, directed by David Guggenheim, follows the now 18-year-old's incredible journey.

“This is about education in the world and I just believe every kid deserves a great education," Guggenheim said.

"Here's a girl – and I have two daughters - a girl who believed that she was equal and that she could stand up for her rights and I want my daughters to be inspired by her story. Often I make my movies to see how I can inspire myself and inspire my family."

"I think my dream is that girls all around the country will say to their moms and dads -I want to go see this movie, this is important to me, this is a story about me,” he said.

He Named Me Malala is released in Australian cinema's on November 12.
