TIME magazine has revealed the details of their fourth annual “word banishment poll”, calling on readers to cast their ballot for which word or phrase they would like to prohibit use of. (Previous ‘winners’ of the dubious honour include OMG, YOLO and ‘twerk’.) This year there are a few unsurprising inclusions. Kale, ‘literally’ and ‘I can’t even’ are all on there. But controversially also on the list? Feminist.

Yes, that’s right. TIME magazine is asking readers whether it’s time to veto ‘feminist’. Their reasoning is that they “have nothing against feminism itself, but when did it become a thing that every celebrity had to state their position on whether this word applies to them, like some politician declaring a party? Let’s stick to the issues and quit throwing this label around like ticker tape at a… parade.”

Well, TIME magazine, feminism is a ‘thing’ and finally the word – and the conversations that go hand-in-hand with it – are being talked about, loudly, by celebrities both male and female alike. We applaud that, and we don’t want the word feminism to go anywhere.
