There's been a lot of conversation regarding feminism recently - just yesterday, we reported on Emma Watson's now infamous speech on the importance of men joining the fight for gender equality, while John Howard unfairly blasted Julia Gillard's misogyny speech.

Today, whether by coincidence or not, Hollywood star Joseph Gordon-Levitt released a video saying he "absolutely" calls himself a feminist.

The star appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres show recently, where he made the admission, saying it was an important topic to bring to light.

"There's a lot of confusion around the term 'feminist'," he explained. "To me, it means your gender doesn't define who you are - you can be whatever you want regardless."

Gordon-Levitt said he'd recently come across a website called womenagainstfeminism.tumblr.com and found it "very interesting."

"People (on the site) seem to think feminism means anti-men," the actor said. "Then there are some saying there's no need for feminism anymore because men and women are equal now. I'm no expert but I think the facts are contrary to this."

He then brings up the salary disparity between men and women as an example (did we mention we love him?).

"It's complicated and I grant that, but I think it's a great thing for us all to be talking about," Gordon-Levitt finishes.
