The Girls creator took to Twitter today to endorse City Council Speaker Christine Quinn in the New York City mayoral election, writing, “I support @ChrisCQuinn for Mayor.” Two minutes later she tweeted “I'm passionate about the idea of the first woman mayor. Quinn is a passionate advocate for marriage equality and married her long-time partner, Kim Catullo, in a ceremony in New York last year.

If she wins the election, she will be the city’s first female mayor, first openly gay mayor and, we’re willing to bet, the first mayor to walk down the aisle to Beyoncé and Bruce Springsteen.
