He might have thrown shade at Lady Gaga at the Golden Globes, but deep down, Leonardo DiCaprio is actually a decent guy - the Oscar-hopeful just pledged to give away $15 million from his fortune to help save the planet.

DiCaprio made the announcement at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he received the Crystal Award for “improving the state of the world”, aka, actually using his money for decent means.

“We simply cannot afford to allow the corporate greed of the coal, oil and gas industries to determine the future of humanity,” DiCaprio said upon receiving his award. “Those entities with a financial interest in preserving this destructive system have denied, and even covered up the evidence of our changing climate.

“Enough is enough. You know better. The world knows better. History will place the blame for this devastation squarely at their feet.”

DiCaprio then suggested that the solution to limiting global warming was to leave oil, gas and coal reserves alone.

“Our planet cannot be saved unless we leave fossil fuels in the ground where they belong,” he said. “Twenty years ago, we described this problem as an addiction. Today, we possess the means to end this reliance.”

The Crystal Award isn’t the only one DiCaprio undoubtedly hopes to receive this year – the now 41-year old is up for an Oscar, and hopefully he’ll actually get it this time. Otherwise, it’s back to sad Leo - and no-one wants to see that.
