Yahoo Lifestyle Angelina Jolie To Make Movie About Cambodia With Son Maddox

Angelina Jolie’s latest movie will deal directly with a subject very close to her heart. The actress and humanitarian will direct a film about the Cambodian civil war based on First They Killed My Father: A Daughter Of Cambodia Remembers, a heart-wrenching memoir published by Cambodian activist Loung Ung.
Jolie, who spent time in Cambodia while filming Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001, has a personal connection to the war-ravaged country. It is the birth country of her eldest child Maddox, whom she adopted from a home for abandoned children in 2001. She has since donated millions to the nation through the foundation established in her son’s name: the Maddox Jolie-Pitt foundation.
Jolie’s son Maddox, 13, will also be closely involved in the project, New York magazine reports though his exact role has not been revealed. Maddox joined his mother and father on the set of their most recent film By The Sea as a production assistant.

“I was deeply affected by Loung’s book,” Jolie said in a statement. “It deepended forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotional memory of it. And it helped me draw closer still to the people of Cambodia, my son’s homeland… It is a dream to be able to adapt this book for the screen.”
“Films like this are hard to watch but important to see. They are also hard to get made. Netflix is making this possible, and I am looking forward to working with them and excited that the film will reach so many people.”
The film will be produced by Netflix and available to susbcribers on the platform in both Khmer and English in 2016.
