Think this film season is going to be dominated by Channing Tatum and his semi-naked Magic Mike XXL co-stars? Not if Zac Efron has anything to do with it.

The trailer for his new flick has dropped and let’s just say the 27-year-old actor has changed – a lot - since his clean-cut, cute as pie High School Musical days. In this new coming-of-age drama We Are Your Friends, Efron plays Cole Carter, a ripped young aspiring DJ (think a would-be Calvin Harris) trying to make it in the Hollywood music scene.

Along for the ride is his posse of mates and the beautiful Sophie (played by Emily Ratakowski of Gone Girl and Blurred Lines fame), who is (uh-oh!) the girlfriend of an older damaged DJ who takes Cole under his wing. Cue lots of sick beats, major bromance, partying and debauchery.

The film hits screens in the US on August 28 – and locally on September 3.
