If The Man From U.N.C.L.E isn’t already on your radar, get it on there, fast. It’s the latest film from the former Mr. Madonna Guy Ritchie (director of Sherlock Holmes and Snatch), and it’s going to be the make-or-break film for Elizabeth Debicki, the 24-year-old Australian starlet who first made her name in Hollywood in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby.

Debicki – who will be dominating both the small and big screen next year, with roles in Foxtel’s The Kettering Incident and big-budget adventure epic Everest co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Keira Knightley – has nabbed a plum role in The Man From U.N.C.L.E as Victoria Vinciguerra, a villainess who wears a lot of glamorous kaftans and chandelier earrings and is in cahoots with the leader of a rogue organisation.

Debicki isn’t the only rising star in the cast. In fact, the film – which is a remake of a 1960s tongue-in-cheek espionage TV show – also stars up-and-comers Henry Cavill (best known as the most recent Superman), Armie Hammer (forever immortalised as the Winklevoss twins from The Social Network) and Alicia Vikander, a Swedish actress with five films out this year. Hugh Grant, in a memorable cameo role as the head of MI6, stands out as the lone A-lister in the cast.

Cavill and Hammer star, respectively, as Napoleon Solo of the CIA and Illya Kuryakin, from the KGB, two spies from opposing sides of the Cold War forced to work together with Vikander’s Gaby Teller (MI6, of course) to stop world domination at the hands of an unknown enemy. Cue car chases in vintage Jags, some stylishly shot fight scenes and a fair amount of whiskey drinking. What good, old-fashioned fun.

The film will be released in Australia on August 13. Until then, why not watch the trailer:
