Sherlock Holmes (“the Internet’s boyfriend” Benedict Cumberbatch) and his erstwhile sidekick John Watson (Martin Freeman) will be returning to TV in 2015. The stars of the BBC’s hit series Sherlock, the network teased their return by tweeting an image that recalled Sherlock Holme’s 19th century origins.
Donning black ties, bowler hats and tweed suits, Cumberbatch and Freeman imitated the original Sidney Paget drawings that illustrated Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s first Sherlock Holmes books, right down to Holmes’ finger-pointing pose.
Fans of the show know that Sherlock is set in the 21st century, with Cumberbatch’s Holmes and Martin’s Watson famously wearing modern attire (no deerstalker hats and country tweeds for this pair). Those same fans may also be dismayed to know that although the show will be back in 2015, it won’t be until Christmas.
