Dita Von Teese Axes "Skinny" Models From Her Lingerie Show

Burlesque star Dita Von Teese has reportedly “axed” skinny models from her upcoming Melbourne L’Oreal Fashion Festival lingerie show, saying it’s important to her that the range is represented by “curvaceous women and fuller-figured girls.”

The tiny star, who features in the advert for her new 'Von Follies' line, told the Herald Sun in Melbourne that she’d turned away at least a dozen models for being too thin.

“We gave a lot of models the axe for being too skinny,” said Von Teese. “Lingerie (looks better) on girls with shape. It was very important to me to offer lingerie in a large range of sizes. Size range was one of the first things I asked when I was approached to create this collection.”

Von Teese was also reportedly dismayed to find that most of her models were heavily tanned, prompting her to issue a “no spray tan” policy.

“Disaster averted!” she tweeted. “Just issued out a 'no spray tan' alert to our models. Apparently, spray tan is the usual prep for lingerie shows. Yikes!”

“She was not happy at all,” The Daily Telegraph added. “The models were of course gorgeous but a lot of them were heavily tanned. Not in a 'tandoori' way or anything, just a standard tan, which (Von Teese) stressed was not her look and was not what she wanted to show off the collection.”

It’s a move that has been applauded by some in the industry, with mrpapararzzi.com writing, “We like Dita Von Teese for doing this - while most lingerie brands are pushing for skinny, orange looking gals to model their collections Dita Von Teese is pressing for exactly the opposite.”

The Von Follies range, which starts at just $25, is available from Target, with sizes ranging up to 16DD.
