Kanye West's Fashion Line Receives Mixed Reviews

It was one of the most highly anticipated shows of the week, but Kanye West's fashion line received mixed reviews upon its debut at Paris Fashion Week.

Although the singer recruited knitwear specialist Louise Goldin to oversee the design of the line, it was clear to attending press that the collection lacked direction and focus, with editors tearing the collection to pieces as soon as the first model hit the runway.

"Next season Kanye should get a tailor so clothes might fit," the New York Times tweeted. "Models swimming in some looks. Kills the hot look, no?"

Meanwhile the International Herald Tribune said plainly that West should stick entertaining the masses with his music instead.

"The Kanye West show, in my humble opinion, is proof that everyone can love fashion but not everyone can be a fashion designer," said style editor Jessica Michault.

Wwd.com conceded that the collection was "neither triumph nor train wreck," but added, "in general the leathers and cuts were too clunky. The rest of the collection is cribbed from the work of the designers he admires."

West himself admitted after the show that his "biggest hurdle" had been "the idea of a celebrity/designer or a celebrity/rapper".

Ironically, Lindsay Lohan was amongst the front row attendees at the show despite West's initial criticisms of her Ungaro line, which he likened to the September 11 attacks on America.

"My collection is bound to be way better than anything Lohan could come up with," he added at the time.
