Dolce & Gabbana have debuted their first-ever collection of hijabs and abayas, releasing the lookbook via Style.com/Arabia.

The stunning collection features 14 looks in black and beige, accented with lace detailing - and an injection of the Italian fashion house's Spring/Summer 2016 collection of floral and lemon prints.

Dolce & Gabbana are the latest brand making the move into the expanding Muslim market, following in the footsteps of H&M who cast Muslim fashion blogger Mariah Idrissi in their 'Close the Loop' ad campaign in 2015 and Uniqlo who released a line of hijabs designed by Muslim designer Hana Tajima.

Tommy Hilfiger and DKNY have also launched dedicated capsule collections for Ramadan, the Islamic holy month. Monique Lhuillier created a collection of kaftans exclusively for Moda Operandi, while Net-a-Porter ran a dedicated campaign titled 'The Ramadan Edit'.

"Globally, the Muslim population is a youthful and growing demographic," says Reina Lewis, professor of cultural studies at London College of Fashion UAL and author of the forthcoming book Muslim Fashion: Contemporary Style Cultures. "This makes Muslims a very important consumer segment for anything."

According to a 2014-2015 report by Thomson Reuters, Muslim spend on clothing and footwear is rapidly on the rise and will reach $484 billion by 2019.

"The market for Islamic commodities started out looking at food and finance,” adds Lewis. “I’ve been saying for the last few years that fashion is going to be the third F—and this is indeed what is beginning to happen."
