Prince William might have thought she “looked like a banana”, but the Duchess’s yellow Roksanda Ilincic dress from the Royal tour has caused quite the furore on eBay.

Apparently, sales of yellow dresses have risen by 95% since the Duchess was spotted in the brightly-coloured design in Sydney.

An eBay spokesperson said: “The Duchess of Cambridge’s wardrobe undeniably affects what’s in when it comes to style-hunting on eBay, with sales consistently skyrocketing after she is photographed in the latest trend.”

The Duchess was also spotted in a yellow design by an unknown British designer (thought to be the Queen’s personal dresser, Angela Kelly) during the Royal tour, ensuring the summery hue is top of mind for eBay hunters.

Sales of floral garments have also risen by 94 per cent, as has the colour green (up 88 per cent), with eBay suspecting the Duchess is largely responsible for the trend.

The so-called ‘Kate effect’, in which everything the Duchess wears sells out within minutes, was in full effect during the Royal tour, with the her Tory Burch dress and DVF wrap dress selling out within minutes.

Likewise, the Zimmermann dress she donned to the Royal Easter Show was such a hit, the brand’s website crashed with fans clamouring to buy it.
