Cynthia Nixon Shaves Her Head

The normally red-haired actress showed off her bald look during US talk show Live With Kelly, saying she always curious to see what it would be like.

"I thought it was kind of gonna be no muss-no fuss, but I have to shave it every day!" said Nixon. "It's got kind of a five o'clock shadow, and you don't want to go on with that."

However, Nixon conceded that while she liked the look, she "wasn't going to keep it forever."

Further prying revealed that Nixon shaved her head because she plays a professor with cancer in the upcoming theatre production, Wit.

"She gets a really bad cancer diagnosis and she goes through this really heavy-duty chemo and she meets that challenge, but she learns a lot about herself," explained Nixon, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006.

The star stirred further controversy recently when she gave a speech saying she believed being gay is a choice.

"I gave a speech recently, an empowerment speech to a gay audience, and it included the line 'I've been straight and I've been gay, and gay is better'," said Nixon, who is engaged to her long-term partner, Christine Marinoni. "And they tried to get me to change it, because they said it implies that homosexuality can be a choice."

Despite heavy criticism, Nixon defended her opinion by saying, "I say it doesn't matter if we flew here or we swam here, it matters that we are here and we are one group and let us stop trying to make a litmus test for who is considered gay and who is not."
