Margaret Zhang's colourful beauty kit

Are you a skincare, makeup, fragrance or hair girl?
Definitely skin because it encompasses lifestyle: good skin requires the right products, but you also have to drink lots of water, eat the right things, and exercise. I also recently realized that stress is a big one, so I’ve been trying to tone it down on the stress a little! It’s not going great, but I’ll get there.
I don’t have consistent acne or anything like that, but once in a while, usually during exams or when I’m not sleeping enough or travelling too much, I get an Everest in the same spot on my forehead.
I have the Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray with me all the time. I’m trying to hunt down the smaller size because the big one was confiscated at the airport.
I also love extra virgin coconut oil, especially in Australia. I think it gets a bit intense overseas and it’s hard to travel with, but at home, I always use it as a makeup remover and body moisturizer.
I don’t do regular facials, but I did see Melanie Grant and she’s kind of amazing. Everyone raves about her. And her skin is like … she’s glowing all the time!

What’s your go-to weekday beauty look?
Clean skin, so just a moisturizer and highlighter. Something like the Clinique Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight is good because you just paint it on your face and it’s generally fine. I’m not really that awesome at makeup. I trained to be a ballerina, and that was like painting makeup on your face, and I think it’s just not my natural gift.

And your after-hours style?
As a feature on my face, I prefer emphasizing my lips over my eyes, so I love a dark lip in the evening, either a really old Versace shade that I can’t remember the name of, but it’s almost a black-purple, or a MAC Matte Lipstick in a darker berry.
I can’t say I’m a fragrance person. I love B. Balenciaga, but mostly because of the packaging, I’m not gonna lie! I find it really hard to find fragrances that aren’t too overpowering. I kind of get dizzy when there’s too much alcohol in them. I often find moisture sprays or just face sprays smell quite fresh, and that’s good enough. Also when I’m using coconut oil, it gets too confusing if I'm wearing too many other scents.
I love Eleven Australia Sea Salt Texture Spray. It’s the only one that holds the texture in my hair all day.

Beauty muse?
I think Léa Seydoux is so cute. She doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, always looks so sweet and fresh, and smiles a lot, which I think is not so popular at the moment!

What’s your favourite Instagram filter?
I don’t use the filters in the Instagram app. My favourite filter apps are Snapseed, which is free, Luminence, which corrects lighting, and VSCOcam.
