Marilyn Monroe For Chanel No. 5 Perfume

Screen siren and glamour goddess Marilyn Monroe is the new face of Chanel No. 5.
More than 50 years after the actress famously said she wore only the iconic perfume to bed, Chanel has released previously unheard recordings of the actress confirming to marie claire France then editor-in-chief, Georges Belmont, that No. 5 was her perfume of her choice.
“You know, they ask me questions,” Monroe explained. “Just an example: ‘What do you wear to bed? A pyjama top? The bottoms of the pyjamas? A nightgown?’ So I said, ‘CHANEL N°5’, because it’s the truth... And yet, I don’t want to say ‘nude’. But it’s the truth !”
The Chanel No. 5 fragrance, still considered a perfume classic, was first introduced in 1921. At the time, Gabrielle Chanel said of the scent, “I want a woman's fragrance that smells like a woman.”
It seems her wish came true: Monroe was the epitome of a woman, from her hourglass figure to her strong presence and alluring femininity.
Previously published and unpublished photos, including the one pictured above, will form the basis of the Chanel No. 5 print campaign starring Monroe, which is set to roll out worldwide from November 2013.
