Margot Robbie gave us many memorable style and beauty moments with Barbie. From her on-screen wardrobe to her global parade of red carpet looks inspired by the famous doll, the actress, 33, genuinely took transforming into the iconic doll to heart.

Still, all good things must come to an end, and it looks like Robbie has said goodbye to her Barbie era (maybe not for good, but definitely for now) with a major hair change.

On April 13, she attended the Breakthrough Prize ceremony at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, where she debuted a new haircut and darker blonde color.

Celebrity pro Aleksey Bishop took Robbie’ hair from chest-grazing strands, last seen at the 2024 Oscars on March 10, to a sophisticated angled long bob hitting her collarbone. Colorist, Jacob Schwartz, accentuated Robbie’s natural brown hair with a darker blonde with brunette roots and highlights throughout. Hairstylist Christopher Farmer was responsible for giving Robbie’s short cut a tousled French girl aesthetic.

"Growing up, I would cut off all of my Barbies hair off. What a full circle it is to cut off the real life Barbie‘s hair," Bishop wrote on Instagram.

Stylist Andrew Mukamal dressed Robbie in a minimalist Rick Owens gown with a strapless neckline that perfectly showcased all the glamour the bob has to offer.

In July 2023, when Robbie and her golden mane took off on the global Barbie press circuit, Schwartz told E! that his preferred way of lightening the star’s hair without damaging it was to go extra on the highlights.

"I choose specific fine pieces throughout her entire head of hair," he said. "I weave a certain amount of highlights on different parts of the base, as opposed to bleaching her entire head of hair." His goal was to maintain a “natural, effortless" look that was true to the star.

Neither Robbie nor her glam team specified the reason for her latest chop. Maybe she was ready for a change or it could point to a new role (there’s a lot of chatter about Robbie producing a live-action Monopoly film and she’s also starring in A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, which required a costume involving bangs).

Whatever the story is behind Robbie’s hair transformation, there’s one thing that we know as fact, and it’s that she — like the many stars who decided to cut their hair, including Jennifer Aniston and Rita Ora, in 2024 — is setting the bar for one of the biggest hair trends of the year.
