A 31-year-old man says his pregnant girlfriend has chosen a name for their child — but it sounds like a reference to her ex.

In a post shared to Reddit, the man says he's looking for "clarity and to find out if I'm really in the wrong in this situation."

"My girlfriend and I met a little over a year ago at work. We hit it off pretty quick. Basically spent as much time as we could talking to each other. We exchange numbers and eventually started hanging out. I was head over heels for her," he continues.

According to the post, the situation was complicated by the fact that the woman was separated from her husband but still legally married, so the two decided to take things slow.

"As I'm sure you can guess ... things did not go as slowly as I had hoped. We soon found out that she was pregnant," the man adds.

In the weeks after, it came to light that the woman wasn't quite as "separated" from her ex as she had let on — though once she told him she was pregnant, the two ultimately did decide to file for divorce.

Now, the original poster writes that the two are in the final stages of planning for their baby and have set up a nursery and started talking about names.

"And here's where the main issue is," he writes. "She announced that she wants to name him a name that is way too similar to her ex's name. Think like, her ex is named James, and she wants to name our baby Jaime."

He continues: "I told her no way. That the name sounded like an homage to her ex, and that I wasn't comfortable with it. She had a total breakdown. Started sobbing and said that I was trying to take away her agency in a situation that had already thrown her life out of control and might even take her first son away from her."

Now, the man is asking Reddit commenters if he was in the wrong.

Commenters certainly don't think so, with one writing, "Both parents get a say on babies name. If the baby isn’t yours then she can name it whatever she wants."

Still others argued there might be bigger issues than the baby's name. Wrote another commenter: "I think you have bigger fish to fry. Are you really comfortable continuing a relationship with a person who actively deceived you AND her ex.... at the same time? As many others have pointed out, a paternity test would be very wise."
