Man Brings Holiday Joy with 20-Foot Replica of Leg Lamp from “A Christmas Story”
“I was tossing and turning one night and then I had this epiphany," J.P. Michalik said of his festive display
One Florida man has set himself miles, or rather feet, apart from his neighbors this holiday season by constructing a massive replica of a classic Christmas film.
J.P. Michalik combined his love for Christmas decorating and the beloved 1983 movie A Christmas Story, by creating a life-size version of one of the most memorable moments of the film in the front yard of his Neptune Beach home.
“You’re looking at an exact scale replica of the leg lamp from A Christmas Story," J.P. Michalik told WJXT. "It is 420% bigger than the one that appears in the movie, so it’s 20 feet tall."
Explaining how he came up with the impressive holiday display idea, Michalik said a restless night's sleep fueled his creative juices.
“I thought it’d be fun to have a neighborhood competition, who could have the best Christmas decorations,” Michalik told the outlet. Then, he had an "epiphany."
To create the replica — which also features the movie’s central character Ralphie hugging the lamp while wearing his iconic pink bunny suit — Michalik revealed that he used a half-mile of 14-inch fringe and golf netting to nail the look.
So far, the Florida resident said that the outdoor decor has become a hit.
“People come by and sometimes their kids haven’t seen the movie and they’re like, ‘Oh no, we gotta go home, and we’re going to force you to watch this movie,‘ ” he told the station.

Michalik said that the holiday display ultimately brings out the fun times he remembers while going to the movies “as a kid in the 80s.”
