EXCLUSIVE: Fox alums Malcolm-Jamal Warner (The Resident) and Megalyn Echikunwoke (Almost Family) are returning to the network in recurring roles opposite Scott Caan and Dania Ramirez in the upcoming third season of its procedural drama Alert: Missing Persons Unit.
Alert: Missing Persons Unit is set in the Philadelphia Police Department’s Missing Persons Unit (MPU). Each episode features a search for a missing person headed by detectives Jason Grant (Caan) and Nikki Batista (Ramirez). Together with the MPU team, their job is to find the missing or abducted and reunite them with their loved ones.

In Season 2, the MPU team settle into their new office in headquarters, where Jason and Nikki meet their new boss Inspector Hollis Braun (guest star Gil Bellows), who wants to keep a close eye on the team, particularly the unpredictable Jason Grant. Jason brings his old friend in to help with the case: master hacker Wayne Pascal (Alisha-Marie Ahamed), who he worked with in Afghanistan.
Season 3 picks up with the MPU tasked with cases ranging from a missing female collegiate rowing team who disappeared while on the water, a missing street artist due to donate his rare bone marrow to save his dying brother and Nikki’s ongoing and dangerous association with Irish mob boss Charlie McGannon (guest star Ian Tracey). But the most harrowing case to date is when MPU must band together in a race to find one of their own.
Warner plays Chief Inspector Bill Houston, who steps into an interim role with oversight of the MPU. A former Army Captain, Houston believes in structure and rules and, in the past, had issues with Jason’s cowboy tactics. He begins to come around to the idea that some rules need to be broken once he sees the results the team gets with their unorthodox approach. He will become the father figure MPU didn’t know they needed.
Echikunwoke plays Lt. Gabrielle Bennett, who started her career in Philly PD as Jason’s trainee. His departure under clouded circumstances was followed by her fast rise. Not a coincidence. Bennett is tough, ambitious, and has a cutting sense of humor. She supports getting things done by any means necessary, just so long as nothing comes back to bite her.
Adeola Role and Ryan Broussard also star.
Alert: Missing Persons Unit is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Fox Entertainment. Carla Kettner serves as showrunner and executive producer. Jon Cowan, Brandon Sonnier, Brandon Margolis, Sean Hennen, John Eisendrath, Jamie Foxx, Datari Turner and Brad Turner are also executive producers.
Warner most recently recurred on ABC’s 9-1-1 and was a regular on Fox’s The Resident, and previously a series regular on ABC’s Ten Days In The Valley. He was also critically praised for his guest lead role on Fox’s anthology series The Accused. Warner is repped by Warner Management and Vault Entertainment
Almost Family alumna Echikunwoke recently wrapped on two films: Rob Burnett’s upcoming In Memoriam, starring alongside Marc Maron and Talia Ryder, and Jas Summers’ Stay starring opposite Mo McRae. She previously starred in John Patton-Ford’s Emily the Criminal with Aubrey Plaza as well as Jason Katim’s executive produced Fox drama Almost Family as Edie Palmer. She’s repped by Untitled Entertainment and UTA.
